Hello SARC and Friends
This is a hybrid meeting both live at the Don Montgomery Centre 2nd floor Senior's Room and on Zoom.
SARC Build Project:
Unfortunately there does not seem to be a viable antenna tuner kit available for use with low power QRP radios. The ATU-10 from NewDIYTech.com is not a kit but it uses latching relays and comes with batteries. It sells for 128.00 USD.

Please suggest any other tuners that are suitable for field use.
Another idea is to build a compact portable field wire antenna. I saw this Chameleon antenna with some brilliant designs incorporating a wire winder and 49:1 balun with both end fed and dipole antenna terminals. The whole works fits in a small carry pouch. The Toronto Amateur Club built an end fed 49:1 balun which we may want to consider as a build project.
Here is the link to the Chameleon Antenna. This brand is sold at Radio World but this particular model is not on their web site.

New Repeater:
The new repeater is up and running with a diminished antenna.
The frequency is 145.250 with an offset of -600 and a tone of 103.5. Give it a try. A new higher gain antenna is on order an should be arriving in the next couple of weeks.
Club HF Radio:
Thanks to Donna Watson VE3WUX the club now has a ICOM-735 transceiver. It needs a little cleanup but is otherwise ok. This old school radio will come in handy for antenna and field days.
She also donated a MFJ-949C antenna tuner for both balanced and unbalanced antennas. Speaking of which she also included a Butternut 2 band vertical which is missing a coupling coil. Fortunately there are parts available.
Thank you Donna.
D-Star Basics:
Here is an invitation to attend a webinar on the basics of D-Star. This invitation was forwarded to us from Ian Clarke our RAC section manager. Please register before this Wednesday to take advantage of an interesting aspect of our hobby that opens up more radio possibilities. If you know anyone else who might be interested, feel free to forward this link.
Al Boyd will be hosting a 1.5-hour presentation on D-Star basics. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the technology and ask questions.
When: Oct 16 19:30
Where: zoom
Please register by October 9th to receive the meeting link.
Side Note:
Sometimes the world really surprises me. I received an email concerning a software product that I bought in 2006. The writer informed me that I was entitled to a free upgrade to their latest version. What software company keeps records that long and then offers a free update 18 years later. By the way the software is still usable in its original form and now has significantly greater capabilities. WOW!
--------------
There is a lot more to discuss so please come out on Tuesday so we can share our ideas. Here is the link to the Zoom meeting.
