Scarborough Amateur Radio Club, Inc.
General Meeting
24 January 2011

Chair: Ralph VE3VXY, President

Ralph VE3VXY called the meeting to order at 7:20 PM

RAC has recently been asking clubs to promote the RAC bulletins by reading them on club nets. Bob VE3IEL asked whether we should read the RAC bulletin on our nets. Discussion – Ralph said we should not use the 2m net as this would tie up the repeater for an extended length of time and we could run into timeouts. It was agreed that we would try it on one of the 10m nets instead.

Bob VE3IEL spoke about Camp X, the secret paramilitary and commando training installation near Whitby. Joe VA3JDX brought in a copy of the book Inside Camp X by Lynn Philip Hodgson, which contains a chapter about the ham radio operators who worked there.

Field Day:
Asif VA3SIF called Toronto Conservation. They told him they no longer allow overnight camping at Bruce’s Mill, although Ralph noted that their website still advertises it. Discussion about alternate sites – Joe mentioned Greenwood Conservation Area north of Taunton Rd in Ajax. Arpad noted that this is near the VE3OSH repeater site. Ralph suggested some other sites such as Jack Goodlad Park and Rouge Park. He and Asif will follow up.

65th anniversary – to be discussed at board meeting. Bob VE3IEL mentioned a dinner/dance on April 10 at Centenary Legion hall.

Meeting adjourned at 8:45 PM.
