Scarborough Amateur Radio Club Incorporated

General Meeting

October 25, 2010

President Bernadine Dinnard-WIlliams VE3YDB called the meeting to order at 7:14 PM.

Announcements: reminder of Christmas party/elections.

Discussion on 65th anniversary celebration. Bob VE3IEL recommended that the executive prepare an agenda and be responsible for decisions. Gord VE3CNA asked whether it would be best to have a major celebration or something quiet, and suggested that perhaps a commemorative keepsake would be appropriate. Earle VE3KCO asked whether we as a club had anything to celebrate at all. Ralph VE3VXY/VE3CIW gave some pricing details for dinner at a Legion hall. Gord suggested that if we decided not to have a dinner, we could have cake and coffee instead. After discussion, members present voted to plan for a dinner.

Communications (B0b VE3IEL):

2 m net is going well, but 10 m needs more participation (Sunday 10 AM, Thursday 7 PM). RAC has asked clubs to consider conducting a traffic net. Should we add traffic handling as an option to one or more of our club nets? Ralph pointed out that we are not affiliated with ONTARS or other established traffic nets, so there is a question about where we would be passing the traffic. There is an existing traffic net (Open Line) on VE3RPT daily at 18:30. Gord VE3CNA said a traffic net would not be useful if there is nobody who could take the traffic and know what to do with it; he noted that the Open Line net rarely has any traffic at all. Bob gave an explanation of formal traffic procedure. Nick VE3EBC said it would be a good thing for all operators to know how to handle such traffic, but agreed that the Open Line net is sufficient to handle any traffic that exists.

Antenna project: Ralph has received letter from Gord Bacon, facility supervisor for city parks & recreation. Still trying to get roof specifications/drawings; the city says we could use our own engineer but the city would have to approve plans.

Draw: thanks to Jim VE3FOE for prizes
