Scarborough Amateur Radio Club, Inc.
September 13, 2010
This meeting took place at the Don Montgomery Community Recreation Centre.
7:15 PM – Ralph VE3VXY called the meeting to order.
Ralph welcomed the members and guests to the meeting.
Over the last few weeks we’ve had a few meetings with representatives from the Toronto FM Communications Society. They approached us with the idea of sharing resources. We already have a relationship with TFM, which includes our use of VE3RPT for our club nets. TFM is primarily a technical group that concentrates on the operation of the repeater system – several of their members would like to have more social events. We as a club have also been looking into setting up our own repeater. We are proposing to participate in activities together where possible, but remain as separate organizations. The TFM annual general meeting and picnic will take place on Sunday, September 19 at the VE3RPT site (Skyloft).
Rudie VE3OUA asked about the club repeater project. The committee has been working on it for the past several months, but this is on hold because Luc VA3LMS has moved back to Ottawa for work reasons. He has returned the club-owned equipment to Nick VE3EBC and Ralph VE3VXY. TFM has offered to help us put a repeater on the air.
Education/tech night: Nobody has registered for courses so far, so we are having tech nights on Friday. TFM asked if we would be offering an advanced-level course but this has not been decided yet.
Rudie has talked with Harold VA1EBK (ex-VE3EBK) who sends his regards.
We need ideas for projects to do and topics to discuss on tech nights. All suggestions welcome.

September 27: Nick VE3EBC spectrum analyzer demo
Antenna project: Ralph will be meeting new facility supervisor (Gord Bacon) on September 23 at 1 PM to discuss plans. The City is renovating the centre and will be demolishing one arena. They intend to make this facility an emergency management centre, and we may be able to get a better location because of this.
65th anniversary: Bob VE3IEL is looking into prices at the Legion.
Ian VA3IGD met Luc on the weekend. Luc has obtained a 6m pair and is willing to turn it over to the club
Gord VE3CNA spoke briefly about the old radio organization website he has set up (http://onradiohistory.ve3we.org/) with help from Ray VE3ZXC.
Ralph mentioned that Christian VA3CEQ fell from a 3rd floor balcony at his apartment while working on an antenna. He had a broken arm and leg, and just recently left hospital. The club will send him a card.
Field Day was a success despite the rain. We had a good time and made many contacts. Bill VE3PA has donated a tent to the club.
Membership dues are still $25. Bob VE3IEL noted that the club used to have a reduced rate for families – this was because the club had a printed newsletter, and sending one copy per family meant we could give a break on the fees.
9:20 PM – Meeting adjourned.
