Scarborough Amateur Radio Club, Inc.
February 8, 2010
This meeting took place at the Seniors Lounge, Don Montgomery Community Recreation Centre.
Vice-President Ralph Muecke VE3VXY called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.
Ralph VE3VXY mentioned a misleading article from the Lindsay Post newspaper regarding ham radio and the new distracted driving law. The article stated that CB and amateur radio operators could only operate mobile during an emergency. The newspaper has since corrected their article to make note of the exemption for amateur operators until 2013.
Ralph has upgraded to the Basic-Plus licence but Industry Canada mistakenly assigned him a new call sign, which he has returned.
Jim Ashfield VE3FOE and Rudy Kendall VE3HXB have donated several items to be sold: a pair of military headphones (sold to Jim VE3JUS for $10); a variac (also sold to Jim VE3JUS for $10); and a Hammond power supply.
At the April 12 meeting, Eric Meth VE3EI will do a presentation on D-STAR. On April 26 we celebrate our club’s 64th anniversary.
Luc VA3LMS demonstrated fast-scan television with a working transmitter and receiver.
Raffle – prizes from Bill VE3PA, Ian VA3IGD, and Jim VE3FOE.
President Bernadine VE3YDB thanked Ralph for starting the meeting. Bernadine also thanked Luc VA3LMS for the FSTV demo and Dean VA3DBD for volunteering to become the assistant treasurer/assistant secretary.
There has been some discussion on the GTA Radio Club Presidents’ Council list about speakers for meetings. Since most of the speakers at our club meetings are members of our club, Bernadine asked if there were any members who would be willing to speak at other local clubs.
Repeater committee: Ian VA3IGD has posted ads on the Ontario Swap Shop for donations. We have received a Micor (Motorola) commercial repeater (half-rack unit) donated by the South Pickering club.
Meeting adjourned at 9:15 PM.
