Don Montgomery Community Centre
President Bernadine Dinnard-Williams VE3YDB called the meeting to order at 7:20 PM.
Welcome to our new member, Jim Carter.
Len VE3LXB has been recovering from a foot injury at home.
Permit for use of the room on Friday nights has not been signed yet. Bernadine will follow up with community centre management.
This Friday we plan to have an orientation night at 6 PM. Ralph and Lambert are both away but Bob will be here.
Ken VE3TQT asked whether we would be doing an advanced course. We are not ready to do this yet.
We have previously invited the Sea Cadets who also meet at the community centre.
We will not be using the supplier Ralph previously contacted because they now want to charge a setup fee of several hundred dollars to do the embroidery.
Ralph VE3VXY talked to Rod VE3SOY who was supposed to write a letter to the community centre management about the antenna proposal. Ken VE3TQT asked whether this building was an emergency shelter, and suggested we might get some help from the city’s emergency operations centre. Thanks to the following individuals who have offered to donate equipment: Bob VE3IEL (dual band antenna), Gord VE3CNA (desk), Ken VE3TQT (G5RV antenna), and Ian VA3IGD (Motorola GM 300).
Dues are still $25 per year. If you pay during the fall term your membership is good until the end of 2010.
Field Day: Thanks to all who helped make Field Day a success, especially Rod VE3SOY (Field Day coordinator), Ken VE3TQT (for the great food and for setting up wireless Internet), Bob VE3IEL (coffee), Ralph (Field Day cake). We had 30+ participants and operated as 9A.
Ray VE3ZXC is making some changes to the website to make it easier to maintain and use.
RAC Canada Day contest:
Due to civic workers’ strike we were not able to operate as a club during the contest. Earle VE3KCO and Gord VE3CNA operated from home.
Treasurer’s report – Lambert VE3LYP: as of August 31 we had $2399.50 in the bank and $79 in cash.
Elections will be held December 7 – all positions on the executive panel and board of directors are open. The Christmas party will be on December 14. The executive meeting for December will be rescheduled.
No raffle tonight. Congratulations to Jim Carter who won the 50/50 draw.
Nick did a talk called “What I did on my summer vacation”. From an article by Paddy VU2PEP in Practical Wireless magazine, he built BITX, a 6 W bidirectional SSB transceiver. The transceiver is designed to make use of commonly available components, with improvisations where specific components like toroids are not available. See http://www.phonestack.com/farhan/bitx.html for details.
Bob VE3IEL reminded members of the upcoming ARES simulated emergency test on October 3-4.
Toronto FM Communications Society will be having their Annual General Meeting and BBQ on September 20. All members of TFMCS in good standing are welcome. AGM starts at 10:00 AM and the BBQ at noon.
Audrey VA3YD moved to adjourn. Meeting adjourned at 9:15 PM.
