Scarborough Amateur Radio Club Inc. General Meeting
The meeting was held at the Don Montgomery Community Recreation Centre
in the Seniors’ lounge on June 8, 2009.
Bernadine VE3YDB (President) called the meeting to order at 7:10 PM.
RAC Canada Day contest/picnic:
Bernadine spoke with Mark about having the picnic at the community
centre on July 1 when the building is closed. No staff will be present
other than security personnel (due to overtime rules) and there is no
public access, so we cannot set up here in any event. So it’s back to
Seven Oaks. Joe and Cyril went to check out the suggested site near the
trees; the disadvantage is that it’s a long way from the parking lot and
you cannot drive up to the spot.
Bernadine will follow up with the city to find out whether we will need
a permit to set up antennas since there will also be a tennis tournament
that day. Earle VE3KCO suggested that if the park is unavailable, and
if his wife agrees, we might be able to use his backyard and antennas.
Bernadine thanked Earle for this very generous offer.
Bernadine also spoke with Mark about continuing our tech nights on
Fridays through the summer. She has not confirmed the permit yet but
will follow up.
Field Day (Rod VE3SOY/Hugh VE3HAG):
Band plan – 9A
Band leaders are responsible for all aspects of their stations and
Hugh VE3HAG suggested bringing reusable cups/plates to reduce waste.
Extra hardware/extension cords (12 gauge preferred)/tents/blankets/lamps
Generator – Rod will be bringing main generator; Ralph and Nick will
have backup generators. Ralph will supply diesel fuel.
Ken VE3TQT will set up wireless internet access.
Rod will try to be on site on Friday around 4 PM.
Ralph will send out press releases to media outlets this week.
Pot luck (Saturday evening)
Talk-in frequency 146.400 simplex, 147.060 (VE3RPT)
Raffle – prizes by Lambert, Bob, Bernadine and Peter
Bob gave a short talk on Hamspeak.
At the executive meeting last week, Bob suggested we have a barbecue
at the centre on June 22. Bernadine will follow up with Mark to see if
this is possible.
Meeting adjourned at 9:20 PM.
