Scarborough Amateur Radio Club Inc. General Meeting

The meeting was held at the Don Montgomery Community Recreation Centre
in the Seniors’ lounge on June 9, 2008.

Bernadine VE3YDB called the meeting to order at 7:40 PM. Welcome to our guest
this evening: Bob VE3SRE

Earle has received the certificate for our club call VE3WE. He has given Rod a
copy of it for Field Day.

Re: interference on VE3RPT

We still plan to write to RAC and Industry Canada about the interference
problem but we will need to have documentation in the form of logs, recordings,
etc. Bob VE3IEL noted that the Toronto FM Communications Society are actively
following up on complaints.

Discussion on handling of interference complaints: Industry Canada handles
regulatory matters pertaining to amateur radio, but any enforcement action is
via the judicial system. This is different from the USA, where the FCC performs
both functions. The standard of proof is more rigorous in Canada.

Field Day

Bob and Earle gave a demo of the SD logging software, which is available from
http://ei5di.com/ The demo covered all the major features of the program.

Richard VA3RSA volunteered to help with editing the log files as necessary for
submission to ARRL.

Rod will supply the main diesel generator. Nick and Ralph have backup gasoline
generators. Ralph will supply diesel fuel as needed. Nick has the distribution
box and cabling. Bob will supply coffee urn.

Safety first – we have never had an incident involving serious injury and we
would like to keep it that way.

Meeting location

Contract for meeting space should be up for renewal soon. Since fees are likely
to be an issue, members present discussed possible alternative locations. Rod
suggested we contact Scarborough Foreign Mission on Kingston Rd where there is
an unused antenna. Bob VE3IEL mentioned that SARC used to meet there and that
the antenna was ours. Rod will follow up.

Meeting adjourned at 9:30 PM.
