Scarborough Amateur Radio Club Inc. General Meeting
The meeting was held at the Don Montgomery Community Recreation Centre in the
Seniors’ lounge on March 10, 2008.
Bernadine VE3YDB called the meeting to order at 7:45 PM.
Welcome to our guest Ward VE3WGK and new member Dan VA3XYO.
Bernadine thanked Bob VE3IEL and Ray VE3ZXC for their work on Wavelength.
We are planning to hold our 62nd Anniversary night on April 28.
We will have a table at the CNIB Hamfest on May 24 – need volunteers to help
with that and with the overall operation of the hamfest.
Nominations for Amateur of the Year will be accepted until March 31. Forms are
on the web site.
Ralph says he would like to begin giving classes in September.
Discussion on meeting place. Scarborough Civic Centre is a possibility though
parking may be a problem.
Field Day will be held on June 28 and 29. This will be discussed at meetings in May.
Topics for upcoming meetings:
Tony will show his Elecraft K3 at a future date. Bob VE3IEL will demonstrate
the SuperDuper logging program at one of the Field Day discussion meetings.
Nick will demonstrate a repeater he has been working on at the March 31 meeting.
Joe spoke about club jackets. We will need to pick a new colour since the old
colour (royal blue) is not available. Winter jackets (black) cost $70-90 + $8
embroidery on each side (may cost less if more jackets are ordered at the same
time); summer jackets (blue/black) cost $50.
Ward VE3WGK spoke about the upcoming CANWARN training which will be held on May
3 at 9:00 AM at Environment Canada, 4905 Dufferin St south of Steeles. This
year the course material has been updated with more Canadian content. Geoff
Coulson and Scott Keddie will be the speakers.
Audrey VA3YD is collecting used eyeglasses for the Doctors Lions Club; these
will be sent overseas to cataract and cornea transplant patients.
Bernadine is trying to contact management at Scarborough Town Centre about setting
up a demonstration of amateur radio. Peter asked whether this would coincide
with other groups’ events such as the Seniors Showcase. Bernadine will follow up.
Break – raffle (4 prizes) – brought in $22.
